Nak Dara (2020)
Collective

In this collective iteration, Hasyimah is interested in having circles to question community and inform her practice. She seeks to soothe collectively and celebrate ‘nafsu’, an insatiable appetite. This gathering will attempt to share varied perspectives about power and body.

Nak Dara (2020)
Solo

‘Nak dara’ is a Malay term that suggests ‘a virgin’ or ‘wanting a virgin’. This iteration is a solo performance that sheds the multi-faceted representations of a woman’s body, and it’s intersections with feminine pleasure and erotic agency. Batik fabric is an immersion into the personhood of Malay-Muslim woman. From cradle to death, these creased pieces of fabric are an accompaniment for femininity through acts of twisting and tying to close the chest, known as ‘kemban’.
